Endangered Plants

Chair:  Bonnie Baker

In order to acquaint the public with their beauty and to encourage their preservation, the native plants on the Wildflower Preservation List (Endangered/Threatened) should not be exhibited in a Flower Show unless it is grown by the exhibitor & so identified.   Exhibits that do not conform should be disqualified.

Photos of the plants can be found at www.tpwd.texas.gov/education-plants

Members are encouraged to promote the propagation of endangered species by utilizing them in their landscape with the long-term goal of removing them from the “list.”

Example –  Johnsons’s Frankenia was removed in 2019.

Threatened plants went from 6 plants to 15 March 30, 2020.

The source for information on endangered plants is Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (March 30, 2020.)  TPWD doesn’t have a set schedule for updating the list – updating when they see a need.

This list is for the entire state of Texas; some of these wildflowers may not grow in your District.  Each District should update their list regularly.
