President’s Welcome

Wildflower Afternoon
By: Evelyn Walker
Beeville, TX

I’m blessed and rich as a person can be
Grandmother has left me a legacy.
She taught me to love sunshine, rain, gardens and Junes,
Butterfly mornings – and wildflower afternoons.
Each spring’s a showcase with God’s gifts of grace:
Indian paints, blue bonnets and Queen Anne’s Lace.
There’s a palette of colors with accents of green.
Every field, land and stream make a rainbow scene.
Red poppies, bluebells, white daisies among the rocks –
The music of wind murmurs through primrose and phlox.
My heart sings the lyrics to Mother Nature’s tunes –
“Butterfly mornings and wildflower afternoons.”

Linda Jean Brown, President 2025-2027

Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your 47th Texas Garden Clubs, Inc. President. (2025-27).  I am honored and humbled to serve you in this capacity.  I will do my very best to be available for each and every one of you.  I look forward to being invited to your District Conventions during the next two years.  Conventions are not only a learning experience but also a time to meet and visit with members. Getting new ideas is key to making the difference in whether a garden club will survive.  With our ever changing environment we need to stay up to date to teach others.  The Highway Beautification Act of 1965 was intended to reduce Junkyards and Billboards.

As I travel to your meetings, I will be promoting my project, the Best Wildflower Project in your District.  The first garden club in your District that successfully wins first place for the uniqueness, location and club involvement will receive a monetary gift of two-hundred dollars ($200.00) from President Linda Jean.  Before and After pictures will be required.  The first place clubs will receive their certificate and monetary gift at the end of my term, 2027.  As it will take this time to prepare the ground, spread the wildflower seeds, and grow.  I look forward to visiting your sites.  Best of Luck to all clubs participating.  More information to follow.

News is being channeled differently than in years past.  In order to stay on top we must work to better serve our members and communities of the way we give and receive news.  We will be able to reach our members through websites and social media.  This is just one way Texas Garden Clubs, Inc. will help promote your organizations.  If your garden club has a website we encourage you to send the link to our Webmaster, Sarah Barrick so it will be included on our website for others to click on.  Please remember include your District Number so it can be added to the correct garden club.

My theme is “Spread Wildflower Seeds all across Texas”.  Simply stated we must make sure our wonderful pollinators (bees, butterflies, ladybugs and etc.) have food to survive.  There is no better way to feed them than the resulting wildflowers that come from hard work and planting seeds.  The beauty of the plants we will leave behind for years to come will be a blessing to others.
As I was glancing through the Weavers of the Tapestry, a history of Texas Garden Clubs, Inc., I noticed that TGC is considered to be a “Force for Good.”  I like the sound of that.  We as garden club members are definitely a force for good.  All the good we do in our communities is obvious.  Our towns depend on local garden clubs for many reasons.  Mostly we are known for our efforts of beautification, education, working with both our youth and elderly.

I look forward to a very exciting term as we reconnect with one another.  It has been some time since some of us have seen each other and it is time to get back to what we love doing…..Playing in the dirt, working our gardens and flower beds, and meeting with one another.

So, members until we see each other again,
enjoy the simple things of life.
All the Best:
Linda Jean Brown
